For an effective blacklight inspection, wait until at least 30 minutes after full dark — scorpions are most active 1–3 hours after sunset. Turn off all outdoor lights, which attract the insects scorpions prey on and can wash out the UV glow. Move slowly and scan low to the ground, checking along the base of walls, under rocks and debris, around the base of trees and shrubs, along block walls, and in any area with moisture. Inside the home, check along baseboards, in closets, under furniture, and in bathrooms. A scorpion that appears motionless may simply be waiting — don't assume it's dead.
