Common Pests in Papago Park

Tempe's desert climate and proximity to undeveloped land creates year-round pest pressure for Papago Park residents. Bark scorpions are the primary concern — they're venomous and common throughout Pinal and Maricopa counties. Regular professional treatment is the most reliable way to keep your home protected.

Local Pest Facts

• Papago Park's direct adjacency to the Papago Park desert preserve means bark scorpion colonies are literally next door — homes on the park's edge experience some of the highest scorpion pressure in Tempe.
• The preserve's desert washes and riparian vegetation create natural corridors that scorpions and other desert wildlife use to move from the park into adjacent residential neighborhoods.
• Black widow spiders are especially common in Papago Park-adjacent properties due to the abundance of natural harborage in the preserve's rocky terrain just beyond the property line.
