The tobacco moth (Ephestia elutella) is a pantry pest that infests dried fruit, nuts, spices, chocolate, and tobacco products in Arizona homes. It is closely related to the Indian meal moth and Mediterranean flour moth but is less commonly encountered in residential settings. Adults are small (14–20mm wingspan) with gray-brown wings marked with two pale cross-bands. Larvae spin silken webbing through infested food products, contaminating them and making them inedible. The tobacco moth is particularly attracted to dried fruit — raisins, dates, figs, and apricots are common infestation sources. It is also found in stored nuts, chocolate, and spices.
